Meet our newest employee Jon Brown. Jon attended Full Sail University in Florida, where he received his bachelor’s Degree in Digital Art and Design. After college, Jon decided to come to Columbia because he enjoys the college town vibe and sees Columbia as design forward. Jon has been working with The Evoke Group since September and has been an excellent addition to the team.

What is your job title at The Evoke Group?

Jon: On my business card it says that I am the Designer and Animator. However, everyone has hands in everything here.

What are your day-to-day tasks?

Jon: It depends on the project. Everyday is different. I could be wrapping up a project or starting 5 new projects. The creative side is very fun especially when working on projects where you have full creative freedom.

What technology do you use to get the job done?

Jon: I mainly use adobe illustrator and after effects. It all depends on the project.

What or who inspires you during the creative process of a project?

Jon: I can pull inspiration from a lot of things. For character designs, I will go on websites like Behance or Dribbble; a place where creatives go to show their work. I pick and pull ideas to make a mash up or create something completely different. You can find inspiration in just about anything.

How do you stay current in this industry?

Jon: Keeping up to date with trends, styles, new artists and even old artists is important. I find it really cool to look at professionals who have been in the industry for a long time and were recognized for a logo they did in the 70’s. It’s cool to see what they are doing now.

If you were an animated character which one would you be and why?

Jon: Finn from Adventure Time. His character is so awesome because he is not afraid of anything and he is always out for adventure. That translates into keeping up to date with things and not being afraid to try new things.
